    The Uncommon Love Of GOD

Many people confuse maturity with apathy. If you think that being mature is the reason you aren’t as passionate about Jesus as you once were, you are mistaken. What if I were to tell my wife “Monica, because our relationship is so mature, I don’t think we need to show passionate affection (kissing, holding hands, etc.) towards each other.” My marriage would fall apart without passion. The same is true for your relationship with God. You remain passionate by considering His love uncommon. When you first got saved you were overwhelmed by His love and forgiveness. Now that you have been saved for a while, the thing you used to consider uncommon, you now consider common. In Mark chapter one the disciples go looking for Jesus at a prayer meeting they aren’t invited to. In Mark 14 they fall asleep at a prayer meeting he is begging them to attend. What happened? The chapters between Mark 1 and Mark 14 are the answer. Jesus healed people, fed five thousand, raised the dead. The man they had left everything to follow because they were fascinated by Him, was now common to them. We forget sometimes how amazing His love is. We talk about it and preach about it, but are we fascinated by it? Does His love hold your attention captive?

This is definitely food for thought. I had never looked at it that way before, though it makes sense. Maybe this is partly why I have to work out my salvation daily. I have to constantly renew my committment and love for Him so that I don’t take Him or His love for granted.
